Understanding Roulette Odds is Now as Easy as Pie

Online Roulette is dominant in the online gambling industry. Among casino players, Live Roulette enjoys immense popularity as they get to have a real-life experience of playing Roulette at a simulated version of a casino and interact with actual dealers. The Roulette relies on chance and is heavily dependent on the odds. The players need to have a clear understanding of the Roulette odds before placing the bets. Each bet has a different payout value and it depends on which variation of the game the player decides to play. It is important for him to get a complete hang of the layout of the Roulette wheel and Roulette table. This article will discuss in detail what are Roulette bets, what are Roulette odds, and how to make the most out of these odds, etc. This article will act as a Roulette guide and familiarise you with the basics of the game.

The chances of you hitting a single number with a straight-up bet are 37:1 since there are a total of 38 numbers on the Roulette wheel. The payout of the winning Roulette odds is 35:1, which is the same for combination bets. This is why Roulette has a house advantage over the players.

The payout for each bet is different and is reliant on the variant you play. The Roulette odds vary from variant to variant. It can be explained through this example. The payout value is expressed in the ratio of $x to 1. For every $x, you get paid $1. The payout of a single bet is 35:1 which means for every $1, you will receive the dollar and $35.

To calculate the Roulette payouts, you have to divide 36 by the bet and subtract 1 from the entire value. For example, if the player places a three number bet, he has to divide 36 by 3 which equals 12 and then subtract 1. The total payout value stands at 11:1. So if he placed $10 on the three number bet, he receives a payout of $110.

To understand Roulette odds, you need to gain significant knowledge on types of bets. Mainly there are two types of bets: a) inside bets and b) outside bets based on their positioning on the Roulette table. We will be discussing each of the bet types in great detail.

Unravelling the outside bets

An outside bet is placed on the perimeter of the table. The outside bets constitute the majority of the Roulette odds. Since the chances of winning such bets are extremely high, you receive very few payouts which are usually expressed in the form of 1:1. Some of the outside bets that have slightly better chances of winning are the dozen and column bets. The chances of winning both these bets are 1:3 and the payout is 2:1. If the ball lands on 0 or 00, then you lose the game. The types of outside bets are discussed below:

Red or black –

You place bets on a red or a black number. If the ball hits either of the predicted numbers, you win a payout of 1:1.

Odd or even –

You place a bet on an odd or an even number. The winner gets a payout of 1:1.

Low or high –

The low bets range from 1-19 and the high bets range from 19-36. Whether the ball lands on a low or high number, you win a payout of 1:1

Column –

If the ball lands on any of the numbers on the three columns, the player receives a payout of 2:1

Dozen s-

There are 36 numbers on the wheel. Therefore, the player places a bet on either of the three columns of dozens. If the ball either falls on the first dozen (1-12), second dozen (12-24) and third dozen (24-36), you win a payout of 2:1

Unravelling the inside bets

The inside bets are placed inside the Roulette table. You have to place bets on a certain kind of number or set of numbers inside the Roulette table. The Roulette odds over here are starkly different from the outside bets. They have lower chances of winning but the payouts are very high. However, the house edge of the inside bets is the same as the outside bets. The types of inside gets are discussed below:

Straight up:

Since it is also known as the single bet, you place a bet on a single number. The probability of winning the bet in American Roulette is 2.6% and in European Roulette is 2.7%. The payout is 35:1

Split:

You place your bet on a pair of adjacent numbers. The probability of winning the bets are 5.4% and 5.3% in European and American Roulette respectively. The payout is 17:1.

Street:

You place a bet on a row of three numbers (19,20 and 21). The chances of winning the bet are 8.1% and 7.9% in European and American Roulette respectively. The payout is 11:1.

Corner:

Also known as a square bet or a quarter bet, you place the bet on the corner of four numbers that can be joined together to form a square. The chances of winning this bet are 10.8% and 10.5% in European and American Roulette respectively. The payout is 8:1.

Basket:

When the ball falls on the five numbers (0,00,1,2 and 3), you win a payout of 6:1. The probability of winning this bet in American Roulette is 13.2%. You will not find this bet on the European Roulette.

Line:

You bet on two adjacent rows, usually consisting of 6 numbers. This is why it is called a line bet. The chances of winning this bet are 16.2% and 15.8% in European Roulette and American Roulette respectively. The payout is 5:1.
